Comment: Kara’s “Jumping” remains No. 1 on our last chart of 2010.  It is a pop dance number co-composed by Han Jae Ho and Kim Seung Soo. The song incorporates both retro sounds from the 80’s and current euro pop sounds. The song is about wanting to go back to the past to one’s past love.

 

2. (+8) Brown Eyed Soul – 똑같다면 (If It’s The Same)

Comment: Moving up quickly to No. 2 is Brown Eyed Soul’s “If It’s The Same”.  Brown Eyed Soul, who has been releasing many singles the past year, finally releases its full length third album titled, “Brown Eyed Soul.” The album includes previous singles, “Blowin’ My Mind,” “You,” “Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Never Forget,” “Love Ballad” and “I Will Move Aside” along with solo tracks from the individual members. The title track is “If It’s the Same,” which showcases Jung Yup’s sweet and Naul’s emotional vocals.

Comment: This is the title track of Girls’ Generation’s 3rd mini album with the same title, ‘Hoot.’ It is an upbeat song that shows the characteristic vocal styles of the 9 members with a blend of go-go rhythm and retro guitar sounds. Comment: Contestants of Super Star K Season 2 keeps hitting our chart. Winner Huh Gak releases his first mini album titled, “Whenever.” Included in the album is his debut track, “Whenever,” a ballad written by top composer Cho Young Soo.  One can hear the powerful vocal of this up and coming talent on this song.  This week “Whenever” moves up one more spot to No. 4.

Comment: Beast’s “Beautiful” drops three spots to No. 5 this week.  Beast keeps coming back with new hits and returns already with their fourth mini album titled, “Lights Go On Again.” Fans are expected to get surprised with what the boys have in store for them. The title track is “Beautiful,” a bright, loving, listener friendly, and lively number confession song perfect for the upcoming winter.

Comment: Orange Caramel who did quite well with their debut song, “Magic Girl” returns this fall with a lovely image. Their title track is “Ah-Ing” which was created by the Jo Young Soo – Wheesung combo who also created, “Magic Girl.” The song is expected to be yet another hit with its trendy Korean sounds. The lyrics, “Again and again ah-ing ah-ing; I’m happy, so ah-ing ah-ing…” are very addicting and energetic. The song will be about the feelings formed over a crush.  This week it drops two spots to No. 6.

Comment: This is the double title track of 2AM’s first full-length album, ‘Saint O’Clock.’ It’s a ballad song about the emptiness and pain one is left with after a break-up, which is perfectly expressed through 2AM’s soulful voice. Comment: This is the title track of Psy’s 5th full-length album, ‘Psy Five.’ This features Psy’s signature dance rock style that is fun and exciting to listen to anywhere, anytime. It tells the listeners to let go of the worldly things immediately and become wild and crazy. Psy shows a unique and aggressive rap and singing style in this song. Comment: This song is a very special collaboration. The One and SNSD’s Taeyeon have come together to release a single titled, “Like a Star.” The two singers go way back. Ten years ago, prior to SNSD’s debut, The One was the vocal teacher for Taeyeon among others such as DBSG members. The song, “Like a Star” is a duet ballad number composed by hitmaker Jo Young Soo with lyrics penned by Ahn Young Min.  This week it drops back three spots to No. 9.

Comment: 2010’s top rookie group Sistar, who has done quite well with “Push Push” and “Shady Girl,” returns with their third single album, “How Dare You.” The song is about a girl who shows her tough and independent side after being hurt by love. This number which was created by the Brave Brothers, fuses both rock and electronic sounds.  This week it is our biggest mover, up 28 spots to No. 10.  With their latest top 10 hit, Sistar solidifies their status as one of the top rookie groups in 2010.  Let see how they fare against CNBlue and Miss A in year end awards.

Comment: Cho Moon Geun is the second Superstar K2 contestent to release his solo album (Huh Gak being the first). Both the album and the title song “Something Like You” got very good reviews.  This week “Something Like You” remains at No. 11.

 

12. (+10) Baek Ji Young – 그여자 (That Woman)

Comment: This song is coming from the blockbuster SBS drama series, “Secret Garden” starring Hyun Bin and Ha Ji Won. The first song from the OST “That Woman” sung by Baek Ji Young who has taken part in many soundtracks including the one for recent hit series, “Iris.” This ballad was composed by Jeon Hae Sung and penned by Won Tae Yeon.  Despite no promotional activity by the singer, this song is one of the most popular songs in Korea now thanks to the drama.  This week it moves up ten spots to No. 12.

Comment: T-ara who started out very strong at the beginning of this year, finally returns with their 2nd mini album before year end.  E-tribe, the hit maker of “U-Go-Girl” and “Gee”, produced their title song, “Yayaya”. “Yayaya” is a unique dance-pop song with addictive melodies and lyrics. This week it is our highest debut at No. 13.

 

14. (+2) Gummy & Bobby Kim – 러브레시피 (Love Recipe)

Comment: We have many good collaborations in 2010 and this is another one.  It is from two well known R&B artists Gummy and Bobby Kim.  Their duet “Love Recipe” is written by famous composer Kim Do Hoon.  The MV stars actor Gong Yoo, who recently came back from military duties.  This week “Love Recipe” moves up two spots to No. 14.

Comment: Gavy NJ, who has received lots of love with their recent single, “Let’s Stop Here” has finally returned with their mini album, “Glossy.” The title track is “Pick Up the Phone” which was composed by hit producer Min Myung Ki who has also written the songs, “Sunflower” and “Love Story” for them. The song was penned by Min Young Jae who also penned 4Men’s “Can’t Do It.” The song is about a girl who feels like going crazy because her ex-boyfriend fails to answer his phone.  This week it remains at No. 15.

Comment: SM Entertainment’s ballad project group, SM The Ballad debuts with their first album, “Miss You.” The group consists of Trax’s Jay, Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, SHINee’s JongHyun, and rookie singer, JINO. There are a total of five new tracks, where each vocalist is able to show his own distinctive vocals as well as harmonize with one another. Fans will be able to see a different side of their favorite artists through SM The Ballad.  The title track “Miss You” moves up seven spots to No. 16 this week.

Comment: Lee Ki Chan returns to the music scene after two years and five months. During the two long years he was able to complete his mandatory military duties and return to do what he does best. “L.o.v.e” is a medium tempo ballad song featuring hip hop duo, Supreme Team. The song is about a couple excited about starting love filling the cold winter with a warm atmosphere.  The Christmas style melody is perfect for the season.  This week it debuts at No. 17.

Comment: City Complex is the first full album from indie rock group Bye Bye Sea.  The title song “My Heart Is Telling (Reprise)” is also on the OST for SBS drama “I Am Legend. Comment: Ga In’s “Irreversible” moves up to No. 1 this week.  Having scored many chart topping songs with Brown Eyed Girls, this is Ga In’s first No. 1 solo hit. Narsha came close earlier this year with “Bbi Ri Bba Ra” at No. 2, but Ga In was able to break through this week against some pretty strong competitions. “Irreversible” is co-composed by hit makers Yoon Sang and Lee Min Soo. The polished chord work, great melody, and rhythm making mesh well with the synth sounds, producing an electronica fused tango number.

 

 

2. (+2) 2PM – I’ll Be Back

Comment: 2PM’s new mini album titled, “Still 2PM” is expected to show an even more mature and refined image of them through seven tracks. The title song is “I’ll Be Back,” an R&B number with hip-hop and house rhythms. The song showcases 2PM’s very own style in music. One of the dance moves involved in the song is the “shuffle dance” popular in the 90’s. The boys will relive this “rabbit dance.”  This week it moves up two more spots to No. 2 and is looking to become the new No. 1 song next week.

Comment: After two weeks on top, Beast drops back to No. 3 with “Breath”.  Beast has already excited fans with “Clenching Fists Tightly” released prior to its upcoming third mini album, “Mastermind.” They need to wait no longer as the boy group returns this month. The title track is “Breath” a new song that is expected to upgrade Beast one notch higher. The song was composed by Sinsadong Tiger and Choi Gyu Sung and Beast member, Yong Jun Hyung took part in penning it. The strong synth riffs and drums flow well with the group’s vocals and adlibs.  Beast is also our Soompi artist of the month for November.  Check them out.

Comment: Dropping one spot to No. 4 this week is top rookie female group Miss A’s second single title song “Breathe”. The girls who debuted this past July with much confidence and skill returns with a funkier and cuter image fans are expected to enjoy. Their debut song “Bad Girl Good Girl” already topped the chart and now they have their second big hit.  Miss A will likely battle top male group CN Blue for this year’s top new artist honor.

Comment: Hip-hop artist PSY returns with his first album in four years. Known for his unique rap and dance songs, PSY has brought together an impressive team for his comeback album Psyfive. Cool’s Lee Jae Hoon features in the advance track “In My Eye”, while Seo In Young pitches in on Thank You. Brown Eyed Soul’s Jung Yup and YDG also participated in the album.  The title track is “Right Now”.  This song combines electronic arrangement along with Psy’s singing and rapping.  This week it is our biggest mover, up 33 spots all the way to No. 7.

Comment: Lim Jung Hee’s “It can’t Be Real” drops two spots to No. 9 this week.  “It Can’t be Real” was composed and penned by Hitman Bang. The producer came up with the title and lyrics of the song after watching the film, “Inception.” The song is about can’t believing breakup actually happened. The song has neo-soul sounds and uses trendy electronic synths.

Comment: Lee Juck’s “With You” from his 4th album “Love” jumps dropped two spots to No. 10 this week.  One of the most well respected artists in Korean Music, lee Juck’s new album immediately becomes top seller upon its release.  ‘With You” also ranked very high in both airplay and internet charts.  It is a rock ballad with lively lyrics, a light band sound, and free-wheeling energy to spare.

Comment: SHInee has done exceptionally well this year with “Lucifer” and is back with its repackaged second album titled, “Hello.” The title track is of the same title and in contrast with their past song which showed off the boys’ powerful charms, the new song will show a sweeter side. This trendy R&B pop number is expected to be refreshing in vocals and rhythms.  This week “Hello” drops two spots to No. 11.

 

 

12. (New) Zi-A & 4men – 울고 불고 (Crying)

Comment: There are many collaborations between artists this year, and the latest one we have two very talented artists, Zi-A and 4men, dueting on this powerful ballad “Crying”.  Thoughout the song, we hear great vocals from both artists.  It is the kind of songs only artists with their talents can pull it off.  This week it debuts at No. 12.

Comment: U-Kiss did quite well with its past mini album, “At I That Easy” causing the entire country to follow the “strong man dance.” The boys are back with their fourth mini album, “Break Time” with includes seven new tracks of new style. The title track is “Shut Up!!” composed by Kim Tae Hyun who also wrote Ivy’s “Sonata of Temptation,” After School’s “Bang,” and T-ara’s “Crazy Because of You.” The song is arranged with hardcore electronic techniques, focusing even more on the group’s vocals and tough styles.  This week it drops three spots to No. 13.

Comment: Mighty Mouth releases a new single titled, “Love Is.” The group is known for collaborating with singers and actors alike, always surprising music listeners with catchy and easy-going music. The duo’s new song, “Love Is” features Korea’s top actresses, Kim Hee Sun who has actually taken a hiatus for a bit. This will be her first work since the break. The actress has some singing experience from her 2005 drama series, “Sad Sonata” in which she sang Natalie Cole’s “Love.” “Love Is” is a song with a simple, yet smooth melody line that flows well with the piano arrangements and medium-tempo hip-hop beats. This love song is expected to receive much love and attention.  This week it moves up four spots to No. 14.

Comment: This song is coming from SBS Drama “Dae Mool” featuring top stars Cha In Pyo, Kwon Sang Woo, and Go Hyun Jung. The sad ballad by Gummy written by hitmakers Kim Do Hoon, Lee Hyun Seung, and Choi Kap Won captures the emotions of the drama as well.  This week it drops two spots to No. 15.

Comment: Female trio HAM (Heart And Mind) scores their first top 20 hit this week with “So Sexy”. This song surprisingly has a very high airplay and that moves it into the top 20.  HAM debuted with “TT Dance” last year.  Like Secret, they do not get a lot of attentions last year, but now they have their first top 20 hit and gaining popularity.

Comment: Rainbow scores another top 20 hit with their latest digital single “Mach”. Just not long ago their song “A” was also in our top 20.  DSP Entertainment has high hope on this group which have a different image and different music style than Kara.  But just like Kara, they keep improving and rank higher with each song.  “Mach” is our third biggest mover, up 28 spots to No. 17.

Comment: Outsider returns this year with his third album titled, “Hero.” The rapper gained much interest in 2009 for having the skill to spit out words with great speed, reaching number one on various music charts. Comment: Best known for the World Cup support songs “For Victory” and The Shouts of Reds, Transfixion is celebrating their tenth anniversary soon. Their new mini-album Never Say Goodbye exemplifies the great talent and appeal that has kept the band going for so long. The title song Never Say Goodbye is a powerful, wistful rock ballad that leaves a deep impression, particularly with its Hammond organ intro.  This song has been released for more than 2 months but only in recent weeks did it pick up a lot of airplay points.

Comment: This song is coming from Asian Superstar Rain’s latest drama “The Fugitive Plan B”, his first TV series in five years.  Even though Rain himself did not participate in the soundtrack for Fugitive Plan B, but his proteges MBLAQ did. The popular boy band’s energetic theme song “RUNNING RUNNING” matches the drama’s action-packed pace.  This week it moves up nine spots to No. 20.

 

YOUNHA announces new album


K-pop/J-pop star YOUNHA is finally releasing a new album this fall on September 22nd. It will be titled “Hitotsu Sora no Shita” and is shaping up to be quite the special release.

The album will collect several songs that the singer has released for television and will also provide some great collaboration work. Working together, i-dep and Sotte Bosse’s Nakamura Hiroshi will be featured on the album. Also, popular acoustic guitar duo DEPAPEPE will be doing a song with YOUNHA as special guests. The track list isn’t final and is subject to changes and additions, but YOUNHA’s official site does say that the album will contain 12 songs total; a nice step up from her recent mini album releases.

There will be two versions available for fans, a regular edition and a limited edition. The limited edition will contain a DVD with five music videos. To help promote the announcement she has finally released a music video for her song “Soratomo ~ Sora wo Miagete” that served as her SOLIVE theme. The track isn’t yet confirmed for release on the new album, but since she is promoting it the song will likely be added to the track list in the future.
