Which idol group members will be most frequently seen this Chuseok weekend?

It’s that time of the year again, where family and friends all around Korea and the world reunite to spend quality time together for the upcoming Chuseok weekend, starting on the 22nd. However in the TV world, it’s a reunion of the most popular idol groups for countless ‘Chuseok Special’ episodes, which are set to broadcast throughout the entre Chuseok weekend to complement the fun familial atmosphere.

Which idol groups will be most frequently seen on these ‘Chuseok Special’ episodes?

Starting off the Chuseok-idol group weekend marathon is SBS’s ‘Star Real Video Case Idols’, where celebrity guests are split into teams A and B and battle each other in quizzes based on various videos. Super Junior’s Lee Teuk & Sungmin, f(x)’s Luna, T-Ara’s Eunjung & Soyeon, ZE:A’s Kwanghee & Dong Jun, and SHINee’s Key will be the contestants for the show.

On the 22nd is MBC’s ‘Idol Star Trot Face Off’, where viewers will be able to listen to their favorite idols singing along to famous trot songs from back in the 60s. This special episode will be comprised of 4minute, miss A, BEAST, U-Kiss, Supernova, 8eight’s Lee Hyun, SHINee’s Onew, and f(x)’s Luna.

On the same day, SBS’s ‘Fantasy Star Couple Challenge Cup’ will air, where idol members pair up as couples to compete in various challenges. 2AM’s Jokwon will be showing a new image as he couples with, not the ‘wife’ B.E.G’s Ga In, but T-Ara’s maknae, Jiyeon. In addition, 2PM’s Junho and Nichkhun pair up with Miss Korea, Kim Juri, while BEAST’s Kikwang and 2AM’s Changmin & Jinwoon reveal their hidden muscles. SHINee’s Jong Hyun & Minho, SECRET, After School’s Kahi, and f(x) are also participating in the show.

On the 23rd, MBC’s ‘Pot of Honey’ will air a special Chuseok episode for their popular corner, ‘Emperor of Alkkagi (Korean game)’, where Super Junior, SHINee, T-Ara, and Supreme Team will be battling it out.

KBS and MBC also prepared an Idol Dance Off competition for the 23rd. Firstly, KBS will kick-start it with ‘Big Star Show Dance Grand Prix’, for which the “My Ear’s Candy” duo of 2PM’s Taecyeon and Baek Ji Young will be MCing the show, and will also reveal a version 2 of their hit track “My Ear’s Candy”. Super Junior’s Shindong, 2PM’s Chansung, MBLAQ’s Lee Joon, SHINee’s Taemin, 4minute’s HyunA, After School’s Kahi, F.T Island’s Lee Hong Ki, and SECRET will also be taking the stage to show never-seen-before dance performances.

On the other hand, MBC’s ‘Star Dance Idols‘ will consist of idol groups performing various dance parodies. ‘Variety Idols’ 2AM, will be battling it out with gag woman Kim Shin Young, while miss A and SECRET are set to put on a musical performance.

Despite the never-ending idol group guest lists for the above variety show specials, it is the 25th and 26th that await the mother of all idol group Chuseok Specials – ‘MBC’s ‘Idol Star Athletics Championships Chuseok Special’, for which a grand total of 120 idol group members came together to participate in a fun-filled athletics field day (Sneak peak part 1 & 2).

So, which show(s) are you most looking forward to the most?

Supernova Thanks TVXQ In Interview

(omitted)

Supernova compared the differences between idol groups in Korea and Japan and stated that different things are expected from each country. While Korea focuses on the musical aspect of idols, the Japanese focus on the variety show quality of idols. Therefore, this difference makes Korean idol groups a refreshing change for the Japanese who accept them as true musicians. Supernova pointed out that the best example of this is TVXQ.

It is all thanks to our seniors TVXQ that we’re getting so much love from Japan. It should be known that TVXQ changed the Japanese perception of Korean idol groups and because of this, it has become easier to debut in Japan because the people there now pay more attention to K-pop.”

Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2010 – September Week 2

1. (+2) Secret – Madonna *** 1 WEEK NO. 1 ***
Score: 848
Genre: Pop/Dance
External from soompi imageMusic+Lyrics: Kang Ji Won, Kim Ki Bum
Album: Secret mini-album Vol. 2 Track 1 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: Secret scores their first No. 1 song with “Madonna”.  They came close with “Magic” early this year and finally hit the top this time.  This song is from Secret’s second mini album titled “Madonna.”  The title track of the same album was composed by hit maker Kang Ji Won and Kim Ki Bum. The song is about living strongly and with much confidence in the current time period like Madonna did. Unlike the popular electronic pop dance songs popular in the Korean music scene at the moment, this song is livened with the feeling of a performance. Korea’s top brass band TST took part in the song to complete it.  Secret debuted late last year and were overshadowed by other rookie girl groups in “the year of girl groups”, but they were widely regarded for their overall talents.  Now finally they have a No. 1 song under their belt.  Congratulations!

2. (–) Homme – 밥만 잘 먹더라 (Eat Well)
Score: 784
Genre: Pop Ballad
External from soompi imageMusic + Lyrics: Bang Shi Hyuk

Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: Perhaps the top duet this year, 2AM’s Chang Min and and 8eight’s Lee Hyun join hands with producer Bang Shi Hyuk for his project, Homme by “Hitman Bang” in time for the summer. The rock, pop, and R&B hybrid number, “Eat Well” uses guitar and drum sounds to refresh listeners’ hearts. It’s the type of song that will make listeners just drop what they are doing and leave. The two artists’ powerful harmonization will definitely make listeners feel the emotions of the song. This week it remains at No. 2.

3. (-2) DJ DOC – 나 이런 사람이야 (I’m This Kind Of Person)

Comment: After three weeks on top, DJ DOC’s “I’m This Kind Of Person” fell two spots to No. 3.  They are one of the most prominent old skool K-Pop/hip-hop groups with past hits like “Run to You”, “Dance With DOC”, and “Summer Story”.  DJ DOC returns after six years with its seventh album, “Appreciation”. This album marks the group’s 15th anniversary in the music industry. The title track “I’m This Kind of Person” is an electronica number with fun lyrics and is expected to capture listeners’ ears. This song along with others from this album has already ranked very high on various music charts and the album is also selling well.

The title track is “I Want to Cheat”, which showcases how much Jo Sung Mo has changed – the electronic guitar riffs and the easy to follow melody line is expected to be popular among listeners. It is totally different from Jo Sung Mo’s previous ballads.  The chemistry works wonderful, and “I Want To Cheat” has high airplays in Korea.  This week it moves up one spot to No. 4.

The title track “A” was co-produced by Han Jae Ho and Kim Seung Soo, which is a pop dance track with hip hop beats and a touch of rock. The song showcases the members’ individuality and refreshing voices, as well as their great rapping skills.
